Bailey died surrounded by family on Sunday, according to a statement on Monday by NRL club Wests Tigers, which Bailey had served as director and chair for a period from 2011.
In the statement, Wests Tigers chair Lee Hagipantelis paid tribute to his "true friend and mentor", saying he was "eternally grateful for his incredible assistance, unwavering support and helpful advice".

While Bailey is best known for presenting the ABC Sydney weather report, he also had stints as the weather man for Nine and Seven as well as hosting radio programs on a number of stations.
Bailey retired from the ABC in 2007 to unsuccessfully run for Parliament as a Labor candidate in North Sydney against incumbent Joe Hockey.
In 2020, he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his services to rugby league and the community.
Fellow ABC personalities including Juanita Phillips, Joe O'Brien and Michael Rowland tweeted their condolences and fond memories of Bailey shortly after the news broke on Monday.
