Cairo, 18 July (Reuters) - The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled its ambassador to Morocco Sunday To protest against the Moroccan representative at the United Nations defending the right to self-determination of Kabylie, in response to the support of Algiers to the independence of Western Sahara.

The former Spanish Sahara has been since the mid-1970s the scene of a conflict between the independence of the Polisario Front and Morocco, which occupies and administers the Western Sahara and considers it an integral part of its territory.

The closure of the land boundaries between Algeria and Morocco since the Algerian civil war of the 1990s has aggravated the tensions between the two neighbors, causing regular diplomatic crises.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has suggested Sunday that it could take other retaliation measures against Morocco. (Nayra Abdallah in Cairo and Hamid Ould Ahmed in Algiers, French version Tangi Salaün)
