Motor future, VW entry: The next few months are crucial
© Motorsport Images Stefano Domenicali expects until summer with a motor decision behind the scenes of Formula 1, the course for the future will be newly new. 2025 a new engine format is to be introduced, and depending on how this looks, could decide the Volkswagen Group to send one of its trademarks (probably Porsche or Audi) in the premier class at the start . But before making decisions in Wolfsburg, it must first be clear where the journey goes.

Formula Vee uses the aircooled boxer engine out of the VW Beetle. There are strict guidelines as to what modifications can be done to the engines . The 1200cc engines are open to a little more modifications than the 1600cc engine . Every engine must run the standard carby, fan shroud and generator housing.
What is a " hot inside V" turbo engine ? The engine suffers from far less lag as the short path for the exhaust gases and the heat mean energy is used more efficiently, which keeps the turbos on boost.

What Makes a V Engine Hot or Cold?
The hot in "hot vee" refers to the exhaust system and where it's located. The cold side is the intake. Internal-combustion engine design has long experimented with the exact locations of the intake and exhaust ports, but today you'll find them on opposite sides of the engine. Air and fuel are drawn into the cold side, are combusted, and exhaust is pushed out the hot side. Think of a single cylinder, and it's easy to picture the two sides.

A classic engine that does not consumes gasoline or diesel, but hydrogen. BMW had presented such a hydrogen combustion engine nearly 15 years ago in the Hydrogen 7.
A vee engine , by definition, is an internal combustion engine with cylinders oriented in a vee shape. Two banks of cylinders with an angle between, as differing from an inline engine . A rotary engine is an engine where there are no cylinders per se, just a combustion chamber with a rotor of some shape turning within it creating pockets of compression that carry out the function of cycles in a standard engine .
So what is a hot V engine and how does it benefit forced induction?
With the balance between the engine and the turbochargers able to be better controlled due to their close proximity in a hot V engine , throttle response is much sharper making the car itself much easier to control. The hot V setup has grown in popularity with manufacturers recently, with AMG producing the its 4.0-litre V8 for the AMG GT, C63 and soon E63 with hot twin-turbos, as well as Porsche introducing the concept to its new Panamera .
A V configuration engine joins two banks of cylinders at their bases, and each bank has its own hot and cold side. Traditionally, the cold sides are paired so they're on the inside of the V and the hot sides are on the outside. This has many packaging and cost benefits, allowing engineers to place a single intake manifold in the center of the V that can feed both banks of cylinders while exhaust manifolds on the outsides of the V can easily route down and around various other components. © the Manufacturer
Why Would You Want a Hot V?
While the traditional layout works great for naturally aspirated engines, it's not as optimal for turbocharged engines. This is true for several reasons, including the fact that turbochargers take up more space in an engine compartment than exhaust manifolds, making them harder to fit in the same area. Turbos are also more efficient the shorter the intake and exhaust paths are, getting more work out of the exhaust and providing more boost to the intake with less lag.

A hot vee engine addresses both of these issues by locating the turbochargers inside the V and reversing the intake and exhaust sides of the engine. Doing so places the bulky turbochargers out of the way and a pair of slim intake manifolds on the outsides of the V where they take up less space than traditional exhaust manifolds. This allows a twin-turbocharged engine to fit in a space designed for a more compact naturally aspirated engine.
Because there isn't much space inside the V, this configuration naturally pushes the turbochargers as close to the exhaust ports as possible. This is good for power, response, and efficiency. Turbochargers work by harnessing the heat and velocity of the exhaust to drive a turbine that compresses the intake air. Compressed air can then be combined with more fuel to create more power than is possible without compression. To get the most out of the exhaust, you want to minimize any loss of exhaust heat and velocity before it reaches the turbocharger, so closer is better. This means the turbocharger will be activated more quickly, reducing turbo lag and turning as much exhaust energy into compressed air as possible.

Sep 2, 2019 - Mercedes is making a bit of a fuss about its new 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 that relaxes under the spacious hood of the new AMG GT. They point out that the turbos are nestled between the V8's cylinder banks, a ' hot vee .' Merc is far from the first to try this layout.
What Cars Have Hot Vee Engines?
The most common type of hot vee engine today is the V-8, and you'll see it most commonly on high-end luxury vehicles. The BMW X6 was the first vehicle to utilize a hot vee engine, and today all V-8s from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche have this configuration. Cadillac adopted the layout for its short-lived Blackwing V-8 in the Cadillac CT6 and Toyota recently filed a patent for a hot vee engine it may use in upcoming Toyota and Lexus products.
